Assistant Curate for St George's
We are delighted to announce that on 3 July, Debbie Onyekwuluje is being ordained as deacon at St Paul’s Cathedral and will serve as a curate at St George’s. Debbie will be a self-supporting minister, meaning that she will continue to work full-time in her job at Camden Council, but will volunteer for us on Sundays and one evening a week.
Debbie comes with a wealth of life experience, as well as ministry at St John’s Upper Holloway. We are very much looking forward to welcoming her. She shares below a little about herself:
“I am Debbie Onyekwuluje. I have lived in Islington for 36 years. I am married to Dr Achike who is a retired NHS worker. I have 3 adult children and 2 granddaughters.
I trained at both St Mellitus and St Augustine’s Theology Colleges in London. I first trained for 3 years as a Licensed Lay Minister at St Mellitus and was licensed in 2019. I continued training for ordained ministry for a further 2 years at St Augustine’s.
I enjoy reading, cooking watching period dramas and comedy on TV. I also love writing creative writing, drama and poetry. I have self published a book and plan to publish more. I love spending time with my family.
I have 36 years experience of working in the housing field for various local authorities. I presently work for Camden Council as a housing officer for the elderly living in sheltered housing.”
