Winners of the Eco Church Bronze Award!

Congratulations everyone, St George’s Tufnell park is now an Eco Church!

What is an Eco Church?

Eco Church is an initiative organised by A Rocha UK to encourage Churches in England and Wales to demonstrate their love for God’s good creation. To complete the Bronze award, St George’s completed a survey that asked how we care for God’s world in our worship and teaching; how we look after our building and land; how we engage with our local community and in global campaigns, and in the personal lifestyles of our congregation.

The survey results highlighted that we have obtained a bronze level award! This is great news because it means we are taking significant action to tackle the climate crisis and fulfill our God-given responsibility to be stewards of creation. The positive things we are doing should be celebrated: we often have teaching and worship that celebrates the magnificence of creation, we compost and recycle, we celebrate biodiversity by growing gardens in the front and side of Church, we have started to use Eco-friendly banners, fair trade products and bio-degradable plates and cutlery at major events.

Whilst this is great news, there are areas we can improve in as a congregation as we seek to be more responsible in caring for creation. We have already started working towards the Eco Church Silver Award - if you have any suggestions for how we can improve as a church or if this is something you feel particularly passionate about and you would like get involved with this project, please speak to Dafydd or Alexandra.

A massive thank you to everyone at St George’s for your efforts to love this good earth, whether that is through recycling, turning lights off or praising God for the glory of His creation. Let’s keep celebrating the beauty of creation through the way we live, worship and serve all our neighbors in Tufnell Park including humans, plants, four-legged-furry-friends, wriggly soil lovers, tree dwellers and winged wonders.

Congrats one and all, let’s get the silver award!
