Coronavirus response
An update on the measures we're taking at St George's in the face of the coronavirus pandemic:
We continue to following the guidelines from the Diocese and wider Church of England. This means that we are still meeting together for worship at our Sunday services (9.30am in the Chapel for a quiet Communion and 11am for the main service, with Children's Church). If you are showing any symptoms, please follow the NHS advice to self-isolate for seven days.
SUNDAY SERVICES
The changes to the service for now will be as follows:
- We won't share the Peace with hugs or handshakes
- We won't pass around the collection bags
- We'll share Communion 'in one kind', which means just the bread
- If you'd like to bring something yummy to share over coffee after the service, please only bring wrapped biscuits.
PLANNING AHEAD
After the service on 15 March, the PCC is meeting to put together a plan to prepare for different scenarios in the coming weeks, so that we're as prepared as we can be for various eventualities.
PASTORAL CARE
If you are feeling particularly anxious, or you are aware of someone in the parish who is in need of a call or some practical support, please don't forget that we have a pastoral team (Alexandra, Matt, Catherine, Dan) ready to offer care and prayer - and now is a time particularly to look out for one another's needs and show love to our neighbours.
ACT WISELY, TRUST DEEPLY
We are all called to be responsible in the face of this situation and to follow carefully the advice from expert sources. It's easy to panic or feel fearful at a time like this, but we can trust in the unchanging love and eternal security we find in Jesus Christ. Jesus reminds us to live in the moment, to appreciate what's around us and to cast all our anxieties and burdens onto him.
The words of Psalm 46 are a great comfort in these times:
God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change,
though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea;
though its waters roar and foam,
though the mountains tremble with its tumult.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy habitation of the Most High.
God is in the midst of the city; it shall not be moved;
God will help it when the morning dawns.
The nations are in an uproar, the kingdoms totter;
he utters his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord of hosts is with us;
the God of Jacob is our refuge.
