Prayer and action for Ukraine

We continue to be in shock by the situation in Ukraine and can feel helpless to know how to respond.

Christians believe that God is both the Almighty bringer-of-justice, so that there will be a reckoning for all the hideous crimes that are being committed, and also that God is made know in the person of Jesus Christ, who comes alongside the the weak and vulnerable, suffering with them. We can bring our prayers of anger and outrage before this God, as well as our cries to protect and uphold those who are in desperate need. God hears and acts and will not abandon the people of Ukraine. You can join in the words of the prayer that the Archbishops of York and Canterbury are encouraging people to pray.

We can also give financially and in kind. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) is always a good place to start. If you prefer to give gifts, then there is the location of a couple of Islington collection points, and information about what is needed, at Help for Ukraine Islington.

There are also opportunities to show hospitality, by offering a room in your home to a refugee. The government Homes for Ukraine scheme has now opened for people to register their interest.

More resources and ideas about how to help can be found on the Compassionate Communities area of work of the Diocese of London.
