Lent 2021

Lent is a time for us to reflect more deeply on our life within God: to be still, pray, fast, and dip beneath the shallows. Here are some ways in which you might like to join our Lent practices this year:

DAILY PRAYER

Starting on 15 February and travelling through Lent, we will use the ‘Pray as you Stay’ (and later on the Pray as you Go) reflections each day, which will be posted on the church’s WhatsApp group - and you are invited to add comments or ask for prayer there too. Please ask if you would like to join the WhatsApp group.

For families, Steve has recommended some daily prayer books for different ages on the WhatsApp group, to work with your day-to-day schedules. Please email Steve, if you’d like a list of these suggestions.

ASH WEDNESDAY

We will hold two services for Ash Wednesday on Zoom - one for families with children at 4pm and a later one at 8pm for adults. Further details HERE.

PRAYER GATHERING

On Tuesday 23 February, 7-8pm, we will join our sisters and brothers across Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets in worship and in praying for our part of London. Bishop Joanne will be with us, and part of the time will be spent in prayer for those in Pentonville Prison. Please email the Stepney Area administrator for the Zoom link.

WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY

We will join Jesus on his journey to the cross as we explore the Lent Sunday Gospel readings in greater depth over four Wednesday evenings 8-9pm on Zoom. Email Alexandra for access.

24 February - Sent to the wilderness (Mark 1:9-15)

3 March - Deny yourself (Mark 8:31-end)

10 March - Overturning the tables (John 2:13-22)

17 March - For God so loved (John 3:14-21)

All welcome to listen, discuss, reflect and pray.

HEALING SERVICE

On Sunday 28 February, we’ll have an evening healing service, to bring our pain and suffering into the hands of a God who cares and heals. Further information HERE.

THEOLOGY BOOK GROUP

On Wednesday 24 March, 7-8.30pm, in place of our Bible study, we will explore The Cross and the Lynching Tree by James H. Cone - please do read it in advance. Further information HERE.

May this Lent draw you closer to the truth of who you are, and draw you nearer to the one who came to rescue and redeem us all.
